The Nannie Cinnamon and Kate Trimble Letters

Letter 5

Clonsilla,
June 20th 1853

Dear Miss Lascelles,

I cannot tell you how much I regret not being able to see you once more ere you depart for "the black north". I am glad you have seen so many places and wish I could have in any way contributed to your amusement while in Dublin but such is almost near to an impossibility with us governesses. I hope to be in Belfast middle of July but my stay I fancy will be of short duration. How did your dress fit? I hope your dressmaker did it nicely. Last Monday I was in the exhibition with the Le Pans for the first time and only once so you are better off than I am. I believe the Packet is the best way to go to Belfast if you are not bound to time. I have always gone by it but is tedious . I'll ask you dear Miss Lascelles to give my love to my Aunt when you reach Killough and speak of me in your kind way to her also to Mrs Surch and Joe. The Parkinsons I look forward to seeing in Belfast therefore shall not burden you with any messages to them. Many kind and grateful remembrances to them. This morning I had a note enclosed (from my good brother in law) by Papa bearing tidings of the continual health and prosperity of all at the opposite side of the broad Atlantic for all of which I feel thankful to God. I will send you Nannies address when you reach home. I know from experience a person could write long letters from home. Perhaps I may see you in Belfast again and whether I am there or not do pray call and see Mamma and Papa should you have a spare hour and nothing better to do. I saw Dr and Mrs Harrison the day I was in the Exhibition but was so far from them that I could not get near enough to ask them how they did. The picture gallery I could spend days in. There were some very fine paintings many I had seen before however. The Goublin? tapestry disappointed me . I had seen much handsomer in Powerscourt covering couches. I shall now say farewell my dear Miss Lascelles trusting you have laid up a good store of health and spirits for the remainder of the season and wishing you a safe journey home. Believe me to remain ever your affectionate,

Kate Rogan
