Arts Center Downpatrick. This Venetian Gothic red brick building replaced the old Market House in 1892. It was built at the sole expence of John Mulholland (the first Lord Dunleath). It was designed by William Butt of Belfast. The tall clock tower is a distinctive feature.

The individual membership subscription is £15.00 per year. Family membership covering those living at the same address is £20. All those named will be full members of the Society, entitled to attend events and participate fully. One journal will be sent to each membership address.

For members resident in the UK, Gift Aid is a scheme by which you can give a sum of money to charity and the charity can reclaim from the Inland Revenue the basic tax on your gift. That increases the value of the payment you made to the charity. For example the £10 subscription, with your agreement, is worth £12.82 to the Society. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim relief on the difference between the basic rate and the higher rate of tax.

Strangford - with its twin town of Portaferry visible on the other side of Strangford Lough. Situated on the western shore of the narrow lough entrance, whose exceptional currents caused the Vikings to name it Strang fjord, Strangford has been a site of settlement for over 1,000 years. In later centuries it was an important port owned by the Earls of Kildare.

Strangford today retains much of its charm as a quiet coastal village, with its tiers of houses overlooking the harbour, the vigourous waters of Strangford Lough and its eternal partner, Portaferry, on the Ards Peninsula. A regular ferry service avoids the need for a 40 mile road journey between the towns.
