Dear Father

We arrived at Shanghai on the 10th Septr we had some very stormy weather but with all we(?) gai??.. passage /25 days ???ing less(?)We had a very bad ?? in(?) the h??? over the fowl(??) and other things belonging to the ship There(?) are four of them in this prison(?) I like the Captain and Mate very well but got very bad treatment from the Second Mate on the passage out he(?) has left his ???? Captain ……… not keep him in the ship on account of the bad treatment he gave the men(?) I have seen him knock the men down with Bel???? ??? ??? kicking them with his feet he ………the Steward a very good threshing The Steward is leaving this ship. I will write next post and let you know more about this place as I have not been on shore yet.
